Robert Reisz

Professor Reisz completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at McGill University, after emigrating from Romania, and learning two new languages, English and French. After a one year teaching position at UCLA, he joined UTM in 1975, where he has been ever since, becoming a full professor in 1989.

Professor Reisz has maintained a rigorous teaching and research program over the past 40 years.

After completing a Visiting Lectureship at the University of California in 1974, Professor Reisz was recruited to the Erindale Campus (now U of T Mississauga) in 1975 as a Visiting Assistant Professor, becoming an Assistant Professor in 1977. In 1980, he was appointed to the University of Toronto’s Graduate School, and has been a full professor at U of T since 1989.

In addition to maintaining his exceptional research program, Professor Reisz holds several honorary appointments at various international institutions including a Distinguished Chair Professor at the National Central University (Taiwan), a Chair Professor in Paleontology at the National Chung Hsing University (Taiwan), and a Distinguished Chair Professor at the National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan). He is also a Research Associate at several internationally recognized museums, including the Smithsonian Institution at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., and at the Royal Ontario Museum, and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
