Monica Mc Sheim is the recipient of the Caring Community Award for her unwavering dedication to fostering connection, collaboration, and support across the Division of the Vice-President and Provost (DVPP) and the broader University of Toronto community.
As an Executive Assistant who consistently leads with empathy and professionalism, Monica is a trusted colleague, mentor, and model of collegiality whose work has had lasting institutional impact. Monica’s support through major leadership transition, including onboarding new directors and supporting Vice-Provostial portfolios, has been marked by efficiency, thoughtfulness, and a deep commitment to relationship-building. Her ability to bring order to complexity while ensuring every stakeholder feels seen and supported speaks to her care for the people and the institution she supports.
Monica’s most impactful contribution is the creation of the Executive Assistant Community of Practice (EACoP), a thriving network that brings together EAs from within DVPP and across the institution. By building this space for shared learning, peer support, and professional development, Monica has filled a critical gap and left a legacy of community care. Her leadership has empowered others, elevated standards of practice, and made countless colleagues feel a stronger sense of belonging. Through all of this, Monica has not only exemplified but elevated the values of the DVPP; she is a leader who strengthens the entire University community.
