In accordance with the Policy on Appointment of Academic Administrators Perron Rules) a search committee has been struck to advise on the appointment of a Dean for the School of Graduate Studies [See PDAD&C #24

Dean, School of Graduate Studies, University of Toronto
The University of Toronto seeks a new Dean for its School of Graduate Studies (SGS). The vision for the University of Toronto is to be a leader among the world's best public teaching and research universities in its discovery, preservation and sharing of knowledge through its teaching and research and its commitment to excellence and equity. Graduate studies are an essential part of this vision. The Dean plays a key role in providing administrative and academic leadership in support of graduate education at the University of Toronto, as well as representing graduate studies external to the University.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate:
- An evident capacity for leadership in changing circumstances
- Extensive experience in progressively responsible academic
administrative leadership roles - A record as a senior scholar with experience in graduate education and
supervision - A commitment to student-centred graduate education
- A broad understanding of, and appreciation for, the diverse
disciplines and interdisciplinary programs at the University of Toronto,
as well as an ability to effectively advocate on behalf of these varied
disciplines and program - The ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, alumni,
government and the broader community - A commitment to the vision of the University of Toronto

The Search Committee will begin consideration of candidates immediately, and is seeking a highly qualified individual who can take office no later than September 1, 2004.
