Re: Appointment of Professor Ulli Krull as Acting Vice-President and Principal, University of Toronto Mississauga

At its meeting on February 26, 2015 the Governing Council approved the re-appointment of Professor Deep Saini for a five-year term over five and a half years effective July 1, 2015 and continuing to December 31, 2020, this was to allow for a six-month administrative leave.  I am pleased to announce that at its meeting today the Governing Council has approved the appointment of Professor Ulli Krull as Acting Vice-President and Principal, University of Toronto Mississauga for a six-month term, effective July 1, 2015 continuing to December 31, 2015.  Professor Krull was recommended to the Governing Council for this role following consultation with the UTM community.

Professor Krull is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry and holder of the AstraZeneca Chair in Biotechnology.  He is also recognized as one of the leading analytical chemists in Canada.  He is currently serving as the Vice-Principal, Special Initiatives at UTM.  Prior to this Professor Krull served as Vice-Principal, Research at UTM from January 1, 2003 until June 2013.  He has previously served as Associate Dean of Sciences (1994-99) and Vice-Dean, Graduate (2006-08).  A very active member of the University community, Professor Krull has played various leadership roles including Chair of the Healthy City Stewardship Centre from 2012 – 2013 and Vice-Chair of Advantage Mississauga in 2012. Past awards and honours have included the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award at UTM, the University of Toronto Faculty Award, recognizing Professor Krull’s excellence in research, teaching, and service, and the inaugural Outstanding Contributor Award from the School of Continuing Studies.  Professor Krull has developed a well-earned reputation as a visionary and strategic leader and innovative thinker, with a proven track record as an exemplary administrator.
