We write to advise that Professor Franco Vaccarino has accepted the position of President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Guelph effective August 15, 2014. He will be stepping down from his position as Vice-President, University of Toronto, and Principal, University of Toronto Scarborough, effective February 15, 2014.
Since taking on the role of Vice-President and Principal in 2007, Professor Vaccarino has been a passionate and tireless champion of the University of Toronto Scarborough. Under his leadership the campus engaged in a constructive and broad-based strategic planning process that set an exciting course for UTSC. The campus has grown substantially, drawing outstanding faculty and students to new undergraduate and graduate programs and strengthening its international presence. UTSC has undergone a period of significant expansion in infrastructure with the completion and opening of the new Science building and the Instructional Centre. As well, the remediation of the North Campus was completed and the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre is on track to open in Fall 2014.
Prior to taking on the role of Vice-President and Principal, Professor Vaccarino served as Chair of the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts and Science and Graduate Chair of the tri-campus Graduate Department of Psychology. He began his career at the University of Toronto in 1984 as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto at Scarborough. He holds a BSc from the University of Toronto, and an MSc and PhD in Psychology from McGill University.
Professor Vaccarino brought extensive leadership experience to his role at UTSC. Prior to serving as Chair of Psychology, he served as Executive Vice-President, Programs of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) from 2003-05, and as Vice-President of Research from 1998-2003. From 1996-1998 he served as Vice-President and Director of Research, Clarke Institute of Psychiatry.

The University of Toronto will immediately begin consultations regarding the appointment of an interim Principal, as well as issue a call for nominations for members of an Advisory Committee to recommend on the appointment of the next Vice-President and Principal of UTSC.
