The Provost has approved the creation of the new administrative position of Vice-Principal, Special Initiatives at UTM. A copy of the position description is below.

The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites nominations or expressions of interest for a newly created position of "Vice-Principal, Special Initiatives". Reporting to the Vice-President & Principal (VP&P), the incumbent will be part of the UTM's senior administration ( He/she will work closely with members of UTM's senior administration, various academic units at UTM, and when necessary, across the University of Toronto's tri-campus system, and a diverse array of public and private sector stakeholders to oversee major new initiatives on this rapidly expanding campus. The position requires a visionary, strategic and innovative person, who combines a proven track record of academic excellence, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, interdisciplinary thinking, and administrative effectiveness. The incumbent will play a key role in both shaping and executing the strategic mission of the University of Toronto Mississauga.

• On behalf of the VP&P, oversees major new initiatives of UTM-wide scope and significance ("major projects"), as determined from time to time by the UTM's senior administration. One example is the proposed Institute for Management and Innovation.
• Working with the Vice-Principal Academic & Dean, engages with appropriate academic units at UTM, and when necessary, across the University's tri-campus system, to develop and execute inter-disciplinary initiatives comprising the major projects.
• Works collaboratively with the VP&P and members of UTM's senior administration ("Principal's Table") to engage external stakeholders in the public and private sectors to forge alliances and partnerships as required for the success of the major projects.
• Works closely with the VP&P, Vice-Principal Academic & Dean, the Chief Administrative Officer, and others to help develop financing and business plans for the major projects.
• Participates, with the VP&P and the Executive Director of Advancement, in developing external-funding proposals to philanthropists, agencies, foundations, and governments for selected projects as required from time to time.
• Represents the interests of the University of Toronto Mississauga at selected external organizations as well as internal committees, as required from time to time.
• As a member of the Principal's Table, participates in the day-to-day administration of the University of Toronto Mississauga.

• Ph.D. in an academic discipline appropriate to the University of Toronto Mississauga, with a sustained record of excellence in teaching, research and university administration, appropriate for appointment as a full professor with tenure at the University of Toronto.
• A successful track record of university administration at a suitably senior level.
• A proven ability to effectively facilitate interdisciplinary alliances and projects, and mutually beneficial partnerships with external stakeholders in public and private sectors. Experience in working with private enterprises would be an asset.
• Outstanding communication skills and an ability to bring diverse stakeholders to work together towards common goals.
• A record of visionary and innovative leadership, and a strong sense of strategy and tactics.
