Re: A Public Observance of Solidarity with the People of Haiti

Please distribute this notice widely.

As you may already know, the President issued a statement on Friday regarding the recent earthquake in Haiti. The statement is available on the University's home page (www.utoronto.ca).

Further to the commitment made in the President's statement, the University will be hosting a special event entitled "A Public Observance in Solidarity with the People of Haiti" on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of Hart House. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

This event will be an opportunity for our community to reflect on the terrible impact of the recent earthquake and to show solidarity with the Haitian people as they begin to recover from the devastation. As part of the event, U of T community members will share personal experiences of Haiti and Haitian culture.

In a community as generous and innovative as the University of Toronto, many opportunities to help are already emerging. We will continue to think about how the University can assist in rebuilding efforts.

If you have questions about the event, please contact Joan Griffin in the Office of the Vice-Provost, Students at 416-978-2083 or via email to joan.griffin@utoronto.ca.
