Re:  Appointment of Special Advisor to the President

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Anthony (Tony) Gray to the position of Special Advisor to the President, effective April 16, 2007. This position was vacated when Dr Chris Cunningham retired at the beginning of 2007.

Dr Gray is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 2001.  For the past two years, Tony Gray has served as the university’s Judicial Affairs Officer and Chief Returning Officer in Office of the Governing Council.

Prior to joining the University of Toronto, he served as a student life professional at MIT where he was Project Director, Graduate Housing Office, Consultant to MIT’s Undergraduate Housing Department; and Program Manager, Student Life Programs.

As Special Advisor, Dr Gray will provide support for various administrative committees and task forces, conduct research relevant to advocacy and policy formulation, and work to enhance communication involving the President’s Office. Tony’s background will also enable the President’s Office to liaise more effectively with student groups and promote closer engagement with issues relevant to the student experience.

Please join me in congratulating Tony Gray on this appointment.
