On Saturday, September 9th, 2006 the University of Toronto is organizing a day of community service for all students, staff and faculty. This day-long opportunity for community involvement underscores the importance we attach to community service, and will bring together the U of T community and neighbourhoods, community agencies and organizations across the Greater Toronto Area.
Outreach 2006 is the first university-wide day of service. Students, staff and faculty from all three campuses are invited to participate; the UTM and UTSC campuses are also hosting their own community service days later in the fall. The September 9th event provides an opportunity for departments, orientation committees, student groups and University colleagues to respond to needs all around Toronto as members of the campus community. University teams will be placed in agencies, neighbourhoods, community centres and environmental sites to work on building crews, to remove garbage from river
banks, to organize reading activities for non-English speaking children, to serve lunch in shelters, and generally to offer support and service to hundreds of Toronto area communities.
Please visit the University of Toronto home page for more information about the day of service, and encourage students, staff and faculty in your divisions to participate. Participants can sign up individually or as a department group, as faculty and staff colleagues, graduate departments, Varsity teams, or student organizations.
