Re: Nominations for an Interim Vice-President and Principal, University of Toronto at Scarborough; and Nominations for the Advisory Committee for the Vice-President and Principal, University of Toronto at Scarborough

As announced last Friday ( PDAD&C #115, http://www.provost.utoronto.ca ), Vice-President and Principal Kwong-loi Shun has accepted a position as Chair Professor of Philosophy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He will be stepping down from his position as Vice-President and Principal of UTSC effective September 1, 2006.

We will be appointing an Interim Vice-President and Principal. This interim appointment will allow us to conduct a full, but expeditious, search for the next Vice-President and Principal of UTSC. We are soliciting feedback from the faculty, staff, students and alumni of UTSC on this interim appointment.

Suggestions for the criteria that should be used in the selection of an Interim Vice-President and Principal as well as nominations for an Interim Vice-President and Principal should be sent to Helen Lasthiotakis at h.lasthiotakis@utoronto.ca by July 21, 2006 .

In accordance with Section 62 of the Policy on Appointment of Academic Administrators, we are also writing to call for nominations of individuals to serve on the advisory committee that will advise on the appointment of a new Vice-President and Principal.  The Policy on Appointment of Academic Administrators mandate the potential composition of the advisory committee as follows:

  7. Two or three other qualified scholars from within or outside this University, but outside the campus;
  8. In addition, the committee may include an alumnus/a, a member of the administrative staff, and a qualified individual from outside the University.
