Re:  Dean of the Faculty of Nursing - Dyanne Affonso

It is with regret that I must advise you that Professor Dyanne Affonso has decided to resign as Dean of the Faculty of Nursing effective October 31, 2004.  Dean Affonso has been actively engaged in a number of national and international research initiatives relating to Patient Safety and has decided to devote her full attention to these critically important research issues.  Dean Affonso will continue as a Professor of Nursing at the University until she takes an early retirement.

During her tenure as Dean, Professor Affonso achieved a number of  major accomplishments: The Faculty of Nursing attained National Accreditation for the second entry baccalaureate program; enrolments in each of the undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs increased  significantly; the Faculty attracted a number of highly qualified young scholars and appointed several outstanding Chairs; research funding in the Faculty increased by 40% and collaborative research among interdisciplinary teams across the University reached an all time high. Dean Affonso played a highly active role on the Council of Health Science-Social Work Deans and her finesse in building collaborative partnerships has been commended by diverse constituents, including government and healthcare leaders.

On behalf of the University, I thank Dean Affonso for her contributions and wish her every success in her ongoing research programs.
