Professor Melanie Woodin was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science beginning July 2019. Professor Woodin served as Vice-Dean, Interdivisional Partnerships at the Faculty of Arts & Science; Associate Dean, Undergraduate Issues & Academic Planning; Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Cell & Systems Biology; and Director of the Human Biology Program.

Professor Woodin is an internationally recognized neuroscientist and scholar renowned for her multi-disciplinary approach to understanding how neurons in the brain communicate. Her research is funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Simons Foundation for Autism Research, and the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Society of Canada. She was named as one of five researchers at U of T and its affiliated hospitals to receive a New Ideas Award.

Professor Woodin completed her BSc in Biology and her MSc in Zoology at the University of Toronto. Professor Woodin received her PhD in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the University of Calgary.
