Re: Permanent Residence Card

PLEASE ENSURE THAT ALL FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS ARE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:

In an earlier memo issued in March, 2003 (PDAD&C #47, 2002-03
New Canadian and U.S. Immigration and Visa Regulations) I
informed you about the requirement for Landed Immigrants to obtain a
Permanent Resident Card (PR Card).  As the holiday season is coming up,
we would like to remind those members of the University community who
became Landed Immigrants (Permanent Residents of Canada) prior to June
28, 2002, that they have until December 31, 2003 to exchange their IMM
1000 Record of Landing document for the Permanent Resident Card (PR
Card).  Those who became landed after June 28, 2002 should already have
received a PR Card.

As of December 31, 2003, permanent residents returning to Canada without
a valid PR card will not be permitted to board a commercial carrier
(airplane, boat, train or bus).  They will have to contact the nearest
Canadian embassy or consulate to obtain a limited use travel document to
re-enter Canada at a cost of $50 for each one.  THE UNIVERSITY WILL HAVE
LIMITED ABILITY TO ASSIST TRAVELLERS STRANDED WITHOUT PROPER
DOCUMENTATION.

Canada website at:
