|RE:||Orientation Programs for New Faculty Members|
After extensive consultation with deans, chairs and new faculty members, I am pleased to announce four collaborative orientation events designed for faculty members new to the University of Toronto. These events will supplement those that are planned by faculties and departments. They will ease the transition process by providing an introduction to research and teaching at UofT and by enabling faculty members to meet each other. Separate sessions will be held in August and September 2003 for mid-career faculty, junior faculty, part-time, stipend and sessional instructors, and spouses and partners of faculty members. In addition to academic divisions, the following offices are involved in the development and delivery of the orientation programs: Office of the Vice-President and Provost, Office of the Vice-President Research and Associate Provost, Office of Teaching Advancement, and Faculty Relocation Service/Family Care Office.
A detailed description of each of the orientation programs is attached in the form of an electronic poster. Please forward information on the appropriate session to new appointees whose appointments began or will begin between January 1, 2003 and September 1, 2003. You are welcome to invite faculty who began their appointments in the fall of 2002, as well.
