I am pleased to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Carol Chin as Acting Principal of Woodsworth College, from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, for the duration of Professor Joseph Desloges approved administrative leave.
Professor Chin is a respected colleague and trusted academic administrator in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Since joining the University of Toronto in 2008, she has amassed a notable record of service to the University. She currently holds the position of Associate Chair, Undergraduate, in the Department of History, where she also serves as the TA Coordinator. She is also a member of the Faculty of Arts and Science Working Group on Academic Integrity and International Students and the Committee on Teaching and Learning.
Professor Chin’s research areas are U.S. foreign relations; U.S. – East Asian relations, culture, gender and international relations. Professor Chin was elected to the Council of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations and served from 2012 to 2014. She is the author of Modernity and National Identity in the United States and East Asia, 1895–1919 as well as numerous articles and book chapters. Her current research focuses on transnational women’s organizations and their impact on international relations. She also teaches an introductory course in world history. Professor Chin holds an A.B. from Harvard University in East Asian Languages and Civilizations and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Ohio State University in History.
