|Re:||Appointment of Professor Sioban Nelson, Interim Vice-Provost, Faculty & Academic Life|
I am pleased to announce that the Executive Committee of the Governing Council has approved the appointment of Professor Sioban Nelson as Interim Vice-Provost, Faculty & Academic Life for a six-month term beginning July 1, 2014. Professor Nelson will serve in this capacity while continuing her current role as Vice-Provost, Academic Programs.
A leading scholar of nursing, Professor Nelson is the author of three books and six edited collections. Her research interests include the assessment of competency in and regulation of professional practice; mobility and the global health professional workforce; and the transnational history of nursing.
Professor Nelson came to Canada from Australia in November 2005 to assume the role of Dean of the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, where she served until last year. As Dean, she enhanced the profile of the Faculty and all the health sciences within the University of Toronto and with external community and professional partners.
In relation to this Interim role, Professor Nelson has experience working with unionised groups, and success in recruiting and retaining excellent faculty to U of T. In her short time as Vice-Provost, Academic Programs, she has already begun to move forward on many key academic initiatives and has formed excellent relationships with Deans, Principals, Vice-Deans and others across our three campuses. Please join me in welcoming her to this Interim role.
