One of the ways in which the Provost's Office provides support to academic administrators is through a series of professional development leadership seminars. Our 2014/15 Professional Development Series will begin with a special four-day workshop - New Academic Administrators Orientation and Leadership Retreat - to be held from Monday, June 23rd to Thursday, June 26th 2014 between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm daily. The first day will take place at the Organizational Development & Learning Centre (ODLC), 215 Huron Street, on the St. George Campus with the remaining three days at the Desautels Centre for Integrative Thinking at the Rotman School of Management, 105 St. George Street. Please register via the following link: http://www.faculty.utoronto.ca/events/academic-administrators/retreat/
The goals of both the leadership retreat and the ongoing professional development program are to provide academic administrators with key information and resources which will assist them in their role, to provide opportunities for interaction with colleagues, and to build relationships and the opportunity to share perspectives. These sessions offer proven strategies and advice for dealing with various scenarios - both expected and unexpected - in the life of an academic administrator.
All new academic administrators are expected to attend. In addition to informative workshops and presentations, the Retreat program affords the opportunity for collegial interaction with your counterparts in other departments and divisions and with a number of other university leaders.
Throughout the year, we continue to provide you with various supports through our professional development leadership seminars and the 'Just-in-Time' series that run throughout the fall and winter terms at lunchtime on a Thursday. These sessions will focus on specific issues relevant to that time in the academic, governance, and administrative cycle (e.g., faculty recruitment, tenure review, etc.). You are encouraged to set this time aside in your diary.
If you have any questions or suggestions concerning the Retreat or the ‘Just-In-Time’ sessions, please feel free to contact Sara-Jane Finlay, Director of the Office of the Vice Provost, Faculty and Academic Life at firstname.lastname@example.org or (416) 978-1855.
