We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Bruce Kidd as Interim Vice-President, University of Toronto and Principal, University of Toronto Scarborough, effective March 1, 2014, for a period of twelve months or until a Vice-President and Principal is appointed, whichever comes first. This appointment was approved at today's meeting of the Governing Council.

Professor Bruce Kidd is a seasoned and respected academic administrator and renowned scholar. As former Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Health, he is well suited to leveraging fully the opportunities associated with the 2015 PanAm/ ParaPan Am Games. He has admired recent initiatives around community outreach and city building at UTSC. Professor Kidd also brings a wealth of leadership experience and dedication to co-curricular programming and student engagement.

Since May 1, 2012, Professor Kidd has served as Warden of Hart House. Prior to that appointment he served as its Interim Warden from 2011-2012. He is a Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education and a former Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Health (1998 - 2010). Professor Kidd has earned degrees from the University of Toronto (B.A., Political Economy), the University of Chicago (A.M., Education), and York University (M.A. and Ph.D., History), and an honorary doctor of laws from Dalhousie University.

Professor Kidd teaches and has written extensively, having authored or edited ten books and hundreds of articles, reports, plays and scripts. He is currently Chair of the Selection Committee, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame; Chair, Maple Leaf Sport and Entertainment Team Up Foundation; Past Chair of the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport; and a member of the Selection Committee, Research Grant Program, Olympic Studies Centre, International Olympic Committee.
Involved in the Olympic Movement throughout his life, Professor Kidd has participated in the Games as an athlete (track and field, 1964), journalist (1976), contributor to the arts and culture programs (1976 and 1988) and accredited social scientist (1988 and 2000). He was founding chair of the Olympic Academy of Canada (1983-1993) and lectures at the International Olympic Academy. He is an honorary member of the Canadian Olympic Committee. In 2004, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.

We wish to thank Professor Kidd for agreeing to serve in this important interim role at UTSC, and we look forward to working with him in this capacity.
