Re:  Appointment of Professor David Cameron as Dean of Faculty of Arts & Science

I am delighted to announce that the Agenda Committee of the Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor David Cameron as Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science, from February 1, 2014 to June 30, 2016.

Professor Cameron has demonstrated outstanding leadership as Interim Dean of the Faculty during the time of transition for both the Faculty and the University. He brings to the position an impressive scope of experience and vision.

At the University of Toronto, Professor Cameron has served in many roles, including Vice-President, Institutional Relations; Chair of the Department of Political Science; and, Acting Vice-Dean, Undergraduate Education and Teaching. In addition to extensive administrative and advisory work at the federal level, Professor Cameron has served in a series of positions for the Government of Ontario, including: Deputy Minister, Intergovernmental Affairs; Deputy Minister and Special Advisor to the Premier on Constitutional Reform; and, Special Constitutional Advisor to the Premier of Ontario.

Professor Cameron is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. A long-time student of Canadian federalism, Quebec nationalism and constitutional reform, in recent decades he has turned his attention to political change and constitution-making in conflict and post-conflict situations in Sri Lanka, Iraq, Somalia, the Western Sahara, and Jerusalem. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada, and also a recipient of the Governor General's International Award for Canadian Studies, the University of Toronto's Ludwik and Estelle Jus Human Rights Prize, the Carolyn Tuohy Impact on Public Policy Award, and the Adrienne Clarkson Public Service Laureateship.

Please join me in congratulating Professor Cameron on his appointment.
