Re: Just-In-Time Workshops, Breakfast Club and Professional Development Leadership Seminar Series for New and Continuing Academic Administrators

I am pleased to provide details of the Professional Development Leadership Seminar Series for New and Continuing Academic Administrators for 2009-10. In response to feedback from last year, the program has been expanded and will be presented in a variety of formats to meet the needs of Academic Administrators.

1. ‘Just-in-Time’ Workshops

Scheduled to precede major human resource events in the academic calendar, these sessions provide an overview of relevant policy, a refresher on the procedures and some tips from experienced Chairs/Deans. They will be held from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. and lunch will be provided. The workshops will be held in either the new first floor meeting room in McMurrich Building (M1) or in the Simcoe Hall (SH) Governing Council Chambers (GCH) or Board Room (BR). The sessions are intended solely for academic administrators.

The first will be hosted by the President with the Vice-Presidents in attendance and the second by the Provost with the Vice-Provosts in attendance. The breakfasts are an opportunity for new and experienced academic administrators to meet in an informal setting, enjoy breakfast and discuss key issues of the day with the President and Vice-Presidents and the Provost and Vice-Provosts.
The breakfast sessions will be held in the Faculty Club from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

3. Professional Development Leadership Seminars (PDLS)

These seminars are issue-specific and focus on some of the key areas of responsibility for new and continuing academic administrators. This year we will be presenting three morning conferences with a keynote address followed by a choice of two different but related workshops. The workshop portions of the conferences are intended to be interactive and allow for participation. They will cover subject areas including:

● Leading for Excellence
● People, Performance and Organizational Change; and
● Managing Conflict.

Further information on these conferences will be announced in late September.
