I am delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Amy Mullin as Acting Vice-Principal Academic & Dean, University of Toronto Mississauga, for a one-year term, effective July 1, 2010. Mullin is currently chair of the Department of Philosophy at U of T Mississauga.
An experienced administrator, Mullin has held a number of leadership positions at the University of Toronto including chair of UTM's philosophy department (2003-present), and acting graduate chair of U of T's philosophy department (2008-09).
An outstanding scholar and author, Mullin's research ranges from feminist philosophy (philosophy of care, conceptions of the self) and aesthetics (art, imagination and morality) to topics in the history of philosophy. Scholarly publications include Reconceiving Pregnancy and Childcare: Ethics, Experience and Reproductive Labor (Cambridge University Press, 2005).
She has received a number of grants through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada on ethics and relationships; children, responsibility and care; and women's experiences during pregnancy and childcare.
Mullin graduated with her AB Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College and her PhD from Yale University. She has been a faculty member at U of T Mississauga since 1990.
Current Vice-Principal Academic & Dean Gage Averill will be on a one-year sabbatical.
