RE: Professor Jens-Erik Mai Appointed Acting Dean, Faculty of Information Studies


I am pleased to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Jens-Erik Mai as Acting Dean, Faculty of Information Studies, effective July 1, 2008 and ending December 31, 2008. An announcement was made on May 14, 2008 regarding the incoming Dean for the Faculty.

Professor Mai holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s and a Bachelor degree from the Royal School of Library and Information Science, Denmark. His research interests are in the intersection between classification, information, and human activities; especially in the networked society and for context specific goals. He teaches courses on indexing, classification, design of controlled vocabularies, and the theoretical foundation of information science.

For the past two years, Professor Mai has served as the Faculty’s Vice Dean and Associate Professor. In this role, he has general oversight of the Faculty’s academic mission, including academic and curricular strategic, policy matters, educational programs, and faculty development. He is familiar with all active files and is well placed to provided stability and continuity during the transition.
