RE:

Appointment of Professor John W. Browne as Acting Principal of Woodsworth College

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor John W. Browne as Acting Principal of Woodsworth College for the period July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008.  As announced in June 30, 2007.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor John W. Browne as Acting Principal of Woodsworth College for the period July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008.  As announced in June 30, 2007.

In 1984, Professor Browne was appointed Principal of Innis College, a post in which he served until 1999.  During his term as principal, Professor Browne concentrated his efforts on improving the student experience at the College.  He oversaw the building of the Innis Residence, the first new University of Toronto residence built since the expansion of the college system in the nineteen-sixties and seventies, and he substantially increased the Innis College scholarship funds.

In 1999, Professor Browne joined the Provost’s Office as Director of Residence Development.  He joined Woodsworth College in 2002 where he now teaches three first-year seminars, two in the Humanities and one in the Social Sciences.

In addition to his work at Woodsworth, Professor Browne currently serves as Director of the MSc and PhD programs in Health Administration in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation in the Faculty of Medicine.  He is the recipient of an Outstanding Teaching Award from the Faculty of Arts and Science in 2005.

Professor Browne brings many years of experience and expertise together with a strong sense of current issues at Woodsworth College for taking on this position.  Please join me in thanking him.
