|Re:||Learning Management System - Update|
The University of Toronto has reached an agreement with Blackboard Inc. to license their Academic Suite. The integrated suite includes the Blackboard Learning System, community portal, document management and e-commerce modules.
This announcement is the culmination of a process which entailed extensive consultation with faculty, students, staff, and other universities over the past year. The Blackboard system was chosen for its broad functionality, large user base amongst major institutions, an accessible community of expert users and developers in the Toronto area and its intuitive user-interface; a high priority for our faculty as expressed in university-wide surveys.
Implementation of the system will enhance the student experience by providing improved integration of digital resources, better communication and collaboration utilities and a consistent, web-based interface across all courses. Instructors will benefit from possibilities for new methods of instruction and more effective and efficient class administration.
Project implementation, directed by the Library's Resource Centre for Academic Technology (RCAT) and the Office of the Vice-President and Provost, will commence immediately. The first major component of the rollout is scheduled for release by September 2006. However, the suite, and its integration with ROSI and the UTORauth identity system, will be tested by faculty, students and staff over the coming months.
For further information contact Linda Murphy-Boyer, Director, RCA (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Marden Paul, Director, Strategic Computing (email@example.com).
Regular project updates will appear on the University home page and the RCAT web site as the project progresses.
