RE: Appointment of Professor Cheryl Regehr, Interim Dean, Faculty of
Social Work

As announced on November 28, Dean James (Jim) Barber has been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Professor Barber will be resigning as Dean of the Faculty of Social Work effective December 31, 2005.

I am pleased to announce that the Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Cheryl Regehr as Interim Dean, effective January 1, 2006, until December 31, 2006, or until the appointment of a new Dean, whichever comes first.

Dr. Regehr is presently the Director of the Centre for Applied Social Research at the University of Toronto, cross-appointed to the Faculty of Law and the Institute for Medical Sciences. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Academic Policy and Programs. In addition, she has been a member of the Health Sciences Ethics Committee of the University of Toronto and of committees adjudicating grants for Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Her program
of research involves examining aspects of recovery from trauma in such diverse populations as victims of rape, firefighters witnessing traumatic events and child welfare workers threatened with violence. Her current research focuses on the impact of operational reviews on emergency service responders following a critical incident in an attempt to understand the interaction effects of organizationally based stressors and the traumatic event in exacerbating stress reactions.

I thank Professor Regehr for her willingness to step forward for this important task.
