|Re:||Tuition Fees for Dependents of International Faculty|
We have had enquiries from international faculty members whose son or daughter is considering enrolling at the University of Toronto because the parents are immigrating to Canada. The question most often asked by foreign faculty with university-aged children concerns tuition fees, specifically, while applying for permanent residence (which can take up to two years), will their dependents be eligible for domestic student fees or will they have to pay international student fees.
I am writing to remind you that, according to a policy of the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, foreign students who are dependents of individuals who are authorized to work in Canada, i.e., those who possess a valid Work Permit, should be charged domestic student fees when applying to any Ontario university. Furthermore, at the University of Toronto, foreign students who are proceeding towards a first undergraduate degree are also eligible for the UofT Scholarship Program for dependents of faculty members.
Please ensure that everyone involved in the recruitment and hiring of new faculty, as well as the Registrarial and Human Resources professionals in your unit, are aware of this policy.
