As part of our efforts to provide central assistance for recruitment the Provost’s Office has prepared a number of resources.

1. The Chronicle of Higher Education

As in previous years, we continue to have an employer profile on the website of The Chronicle of Higher Education. It receives approximately 50,000 views per month and is linked to each advertisement placed in The Chronicle by any UofT unit. Additionally, it contains links to several UofT websites including Working at UofT and Academic Employment Opportunities. The Provost’s Office has revised our Employer Profile with The Chronicle for the 2005/2006 academic year. It is located at: http://chronicle.com/jobs/profiles/10596.htm

The Chronicle has offered us the opportunity to save on our advertising costs by signing a display ad advertising contract. As in the past, we have committed to placing at least 6 display ads in The Chronicle during 2005/2006. There is a sliding scale of discounts based on the size of your ad. Display ads can be as small as 2 columns by 2 inches and cost less than a full text ad. Mr. Rick Plotkin, Account Manager, is available to work with departments concerned about costs, but interested in advertising in The Chronicle. Rick can be reached at (202) 466-1775 or ChronicleCareers@chronicle.com. Please note that line ads and web ads are not covered by this contract and are therefore not eligible for any discounts.

To get the discounted rate, you must submit your ad online via e-mail to jobs@chronicle.com (include “University of Toronto” in the subject line) and quote and our NEW CONTRACT NUMBER #724 . Please ensure the person who administers your advertising is aware of this contract number. 2. Audit of Appointment Files

The results of an audit of the appointment files from last year has been posted on the Provost’s Office website at :
http://www.provost.utoronto.ca/userfiles/page_attachments/library/6/Appointment_Files_Audit_2004_16361_981858.ppt. The audit considered the advertising strategies used including size, distribution and language of advertisements. It also examined the gender breakdown of applicant pools, search committees, short-lists and candidates. The audit showed that listings placed in The Chronicle were sometimes more expensive than display ads.

3. Proactive Recruitment Toolkit

A new Proactive Recruitment Toolkit is now available on the Provost’s Office website (http://www.provost.utoronto.ca/English/Proactive-Faculty-Recruitment-Toolkit.html). Designed to provide you with information and resources for recruitment, it summarises recent research, collects best practice from across North America and provides a range of resources for search committees. The information is constantly being updated and revised to reflect changes in this area.
