98 PTR Merit Award and Performance Assessment Letters

As you know, the University and UTFA have not reached an agreement on salary and benefits for faculty members and librarians for July 1, 2005.

The University will be implementing PTR awards for July 1, 2005 (other than senior salary awards) despite the failure to reach agreement on an Across-the-Board increase.  We ask that Chairs and Divisional Heads include the relevant statement from the following in their letters to faculty members and librarians informing them of their PTR/Merit award and performance assessment.

1.    Letters to Faculty Members and Librarians not on the Senior Salary List

Although the University and UTFA have not reached an agreement on salary and benefits for the academic year 2005/06, the University will be implementing the PTR awards for July 1, 2005.  This letter reflects your PTR award and your 2005/06 base salary including that award.  Once an agreement or an arbitration award resolves all of the salary and benefits issues, I will write to you to inform you of further adjustments to your 2005/06 base salary.

2.    Letters to Senior Salary Faculty

Without an agreement between the University and UTFA on salary and benefits for the academic year 2005/06, the University is not able to calculate the senior salary PTR awards. Members of the Senior Salary group do not receive across-the-board increases. The pool of funds available for allocation is arrived at by calculating for the Senior Salary group the across-the-board increase and adding to it a nominal PTR for faculty members whose salaries are above the breakpoint. The total pool of funds is then allocated entirely on the basis of merit. I am able to inform you that your performance for 2004-05 has been assessed as “insert faculty member’s rating”.  I will write to you to inform you of your merit award and 2005/06 base salary as soon as an agreement or arbitration award resolves the issues.

Instruction on implementation of these increases will be circulated to your Business Officers.
