The Report of the Committee to Review the University’s Web Space [May 2004](1), chaired by Dr. Eva Swenson, discussed enhancing the way we use the Web to enhance the student experience, improve efficiencies in our operations, and better communicate with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the public.

The report recommended the formation of the Web Space Steering Committee(2) and Web Space Project Office to provide direction and co-ordination to Web activities.

The Web Space Steering Committee, reporting to the Computing Management Board has been formed with the following membership:

   Marden Paul, Director, Strategic Computing, Office of the VP & Provost (Chair)
   Andrea Belanger, Special Communications, Division of University Advancement
   Louis Charpentier, Secretary to the Governing Council
   Jim Delaney, Assistant Director, Student Affairs, Office of the Vice-Provost, Students
   Greg Evans, Acting-Dean, Undergraduate, Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering
   Pam Gravestock, Assistant Director, Office of Teaching Advancement
   Paul Ruppert, Director, Research & Computer Systems, Dept. of Civil Engineering
   Christina Sass-Kortsak, Assistant Vice-President, Human Resources
   Christine Elias, Associate Director, Communications, Faculty of Arts & Science
   Vicki Vokas, Manager, Web Services Project Office, Office of the VP and Provost

The committee’s mandate includes:

• To develop and communicate a clear statement of the University’s vision, strategy and policy with respect to its Web Space.
• To identify core services that will be supported institutionally and promote their use across the institution.
• To work to institute policies and standards surrounding the Web space.
• To work with divisional academic leadership as partners in this vision and strategy.

We have appointed Ms. Vicki Vokas to the position of Manager, Web Space Project Office, and Ms. Cheryl Ziegler as the Information Architecture and Design Leader for the Student Portal and other Web projects.

The Web Space Project Office will be responsible for implementing projects established by the Web Space Steering Committee.
