Re: Procedures in Event of a TTC Strike

In the event of a TTC strike, the University will be open for business as usual, students will be expected to write examinations as scheduled and employees will be expected to perform their jobs. Supervisors are requested to remain flexible concerning employees who are delayed in transit. Supervisors should also be flexible regarding specific work schedules, where possible, to facilitate car pooling and use of alternative transportation arrangements. In some cases, it may be possible for supervisors to approve employees working from home.

Should a strike be prolonged, further notices will be posted at http://www.utoronto.ca or call the automated information number at 416-978-7669.

Shuttle Buses

The Parking Office has made shuttle bus arrangements running between Union Station and King's College Circle in front of the Medical Sciences Building, effective on the first morning of a TTC strike.

There will be a bus running approximately every half hour from Union Station during the hours 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. The times will vary according to traffic conditions.

There will be no charge. However, staff should indicate their names and departments, and it is advisable that students have valid U of T student cards. The service will be on a first come, first served basis. U of T signs will be posted on the buses. The buses will attempt to be located on Front Street in front of Union Station, but the exact location will vary depending on traffic and parking conditions. We are hopeful that spring weather will soon arrive, and for some the 30-minute walk from Union Station may be an attractive alternative.

The Mississauga shuttle service will be in operation as per the normal schedule. This schedule may vary according to traffic conditions.

  • Mississauga - North Building
    Leaves Mississauga at 6:50 a.m and every half-hour until 5:35 p.m.

  • St. George - MSB
    Returns to Mississauga at 8:05 a.m. and every half-hour until 6:35 p.m

Car Pools

Departments should make every effort to arrange internally for car pools. Past experience has shown that employees and students are most comfortable making arrangements with people they know. Department heads and supervisors are encouraged to facilitate these arrangements. In some cases your personnel office may be able to help.

The parking office hours will be extended and additional staff will be on duty during the strike. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Normal parking regulations, including cash rates and parking enforcement, will continue. The main cash parking lots are located at: front campus, OISE garage, St. George garage and the Faculty of Education parking lot. Should you have any questions, please call 416-978-0469 or 416-978-PARK. In the event of a prolonged strike please check the web or notices for additional services.

Those members who are within walking distance of the University are encouraged to leave their car at home so that we can accommodate as many members in need of parking as possible.
