Re: Appointment of Stipendiary Instructors for Fall 2005

Negotiations for a first collective agreement between the University and CUPE 3902, Unit 3, representing stipendiary instructors, continue.  Both the University and the Union are hopeful that an agreement will be reached by the end of March.

The new agreement will include an outline of the procedures to be followed when stipendiary instructors are appointed within departments. To the extent possible, we would like to adopt the new hiring procedures for the 2005-6 Fall/Winter Terms.

Therefore, we ask that you put the appointment of stipendiary instructors (who will be covered by the new collective agreement) for the Fall/Winter Terms on hold until further notice.  If we finalise the Collective Agreement with CUPE by March 31, we will immediately advise you of the new procedures. If, on the other hand, we have been unable to an agreement with CUPE by that time, then we will advise you to continue with the appointment process as it currently exists within your department.

Please note that this applies ONLY to appointments for the Fall/Winter Terms.  Appointments for Summer should continue in accordance with current practice.
