|Re:||Re-appointment of Professor Roger Martin, Dean, Joseph L. Rotman School of Management|
I am pleased to announce the re-appointment of Professor Roger Martin as Dean of the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto for a further five-year term, beginning July 1, 2005 and ending June 30, 2010.
During his first term as Dean, Professor Martin set a clear vision of what he wanted the School to become and mobilised the resources to get there. The School has made significant progress: doubling the size of the full-time MBA cohort and its Executive MBA and growing to 80 full-time faculty. The School has been distinguished with a similar rise in the quality of students admitted and the hiring of extremely well-qualified faculty. The reputation of the Rotman School has grown as demonstrated by its dramatic rise in the global rankings of business schools. Dean Martin has won the strong support and respect of the faculty, the allegiance of the students, and the admiration of the broader academic and business community.
The challenges of the past five years have been formidable, but the School has met them successfully, and has built a firm foundation for further progress. The challenges of the next five years, for which Dean Martin has set the objective of moving the School into the top ranks globally, will almost certainly be different and greater. Dean Martin is a colleague who has served the School and the University with distinction and dedication and I am confident that he will continue to demonstrate his commitment to the School’s excellence in his second term as Dean.
