I am pleased to announce that the Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Diane Doran as Interim Dean, effective November 11, 2004 until August 31, 2005 or until the appointment of a new Dean, whichever comes first.
Professor Doran, RN, Ph.D., joined the Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto in 1995 and is currently Professor, and Associate Dean of Research and International Relations. She holds a PhD (Health
Administration) from the University of Toronto, an MHSc (Health Care Practice) from McMaster University, a Diploma (Nursing) from George Brown College and a BA (Psychology) from Trent University
Professor Doran is a recipient of the Ontario Premiers Research Excellence Award. Her research has been recognized by the Canadian Association of University Schools of Nursing Award of Excellence, and the Dorothy Pringle Research Excellence Award, Sigma Theta Tau International, Lambda Pi Chapter. Her recent research focuses on health care teams, the evaluation of methods for improving the quality of
nursing practice, and the design and measurement of nursing sensitive patient outcomes. She is currently engaged in an innovative investigation into the use of handheld technology to improve nurses’
collection, utilization, and communication of health information at the point-of-care. She is a co-investigator with the Nursing Health Services Research Unit, Faculty of Nursing, and the Patient Safety Research Cluster, University of Toronto. Professor Doran has actively engaged in establishing joint initiatives with nursing faculties in the United States, Japan, and Finland.
