In May 2004 the Report of the School of Graduate Studies Review Committee was released that outlined a series of recommendations about graduate education at the University of Toronto.  The key recommendation of the report was that “…given the centrality of graduate studies to the vision and mission of the University of Toronto, the School of Graduate Studies Review Committee recommends that a Task Force be struck to do an overarching review of the place of graduate education at the University of Toronto.”   [A copy of the report is available at Report of the School of Graduate Studies Review Committee.]

After consultation with Principals and Deans, a Graduate Education Task Force has been struck.  The composition of the Task Force is as follows: 

  • Professor Vivek Goel, Vice-President and Provost (Co-Chair)
  • Professor Susan Pfeiffer, Dean, School of Graduate Studies  (Co-Chair)
  • Professor Ragnar Buchweitz, Vice-Principal (Academic) and Dean, University of Toronto at Scarborough
  • Professor Jim Barber, Dean, Faculty of Social Work
  • Professor Jonathan Freedman, Acting Vice-Dean Graduate Education & Research, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Professor Glen Jones, Associate Dean, Academic, OISE/UT
  • Professor Cathy Whiteside, Associate Dean, Faculty of Medicine 
  • Professor Jane Abray, Department of History, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Professor Elizabeth Harvey, Department of English, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Professor Kim Woodhouse, Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science
