RE:   CUPE Certification Vote for Stipendiary Instructors

The Ontario Labour Relations Board has ordered that a vote will be held as a result of an application for certification filed by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 for instructors teaching on short-term contracts. THIS VOTE IS TO BE HELD TOMORROW, THURSDAY APRIL 24.

Voting arrangements are outlined in a separate memo available at This information should be provided to these instructors. Please ensure that this notice is posted broadly within your units.

Managers are reminded that while they should communicate to potential voters the arrangements about the vote they must ensure that the communication is consistent with the attached communiqué and that there is no attempt to influence the vote in any way.

Lists of potentially eligible voters are being distributed through Divisional Human Resources Offices to help facilitate delivery of the notice.

The exact scope of the bargaining unit has not yet been determined. Ballots will be segregated and votes will not be counted until the Labour Board makes further rulings. Thus anyone who is in doubt as to whether they are covered or not should be instructed to vote and informed that the question of whether their vote will ultimately count or not will be sorted out later.
