RE:   175 Years of Great Teaching

The Office of Teaching Advancement is celebrating 175 Years of Great Teaching and we invite all members of the university community to submit the names of exceptional teachers from our great past.

In particular, we are looking for the names of faculty from your division who have made a significant contribution to teaching at the University of Toronto and who have demonstrated a career commitment to teaching excellence. When nominating a candidate, please consider the following:

  • the teacher who communicated his/her subject in the most effective way, combining profound knowledge with highly developed skills in communication;
  • the teacher who embodied a set of ideals, principles or values and communicated these through his/her classes;
  • the teacher who integrated a successful research career with dynamic teaching.

And remember that we are looking for nominees from our entire 175 years of history; therefore, we encourage you to consider nominating an individual from your department or faculty's past. (You might consider providing us with contact information for those individuals who have written a history of your department or division who might have suggestions.) Consider those teachers who have left a significant mark on our institution, those that helped to shape our university.

Please note: Nominations should include your name, faculty, department, the name of the nominee, their faculty and department, and your reason for nomination.

Please submit your nominations by 28 February 2003 to:
