About the Vice-President and Provost

Professor Cheryl Misak was appointed Vice-President and Provost effective February 1, 2009 for a term continuing until June 30, 2012.
Since July 1, 2008 Professor Misak had been serving as Interim Vice-President and Provost. Immediately prior to her appointment as Interim Vice-President and Provost, she served as Deputy Provost from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. As well, for four years Professor Misak played key leadership roles at the University of Toronto at Mississauga, first as Vice-Principal and Dean (from 2003-04 to 2005-06) and as Acting Vice-President and Principal (in 2006-07). Under her leadership as Chair from 2000-01 to 2002-03, the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts and Science was firmly established as one of our finest academic units and one of the top-ranked departments in the world. She was also Graduate Coordinator and Associate Chair in the same Department from 1998 to 2000.
Professor Misak received her BA from the University of Lethbridge, MA from Columbia University, and her D.Phil from the University of Oxford. She has been a member of the University of Toronto professoriate since 1990. A distinguished scholar, Professor Misak was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2001 and notwithstanding her varied administrative commitments, remains highly productive as a working philosopher.
